The purpose of the workshop is to facilitate innovation and good decision making at the board level in order to foster inclusion, and to ensure that your organization can attract and retain a pipeline of diverse board candidates.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Nika White’s professional career spans approximately 20 years, ranging from serving as a diversity and inclusion practitioner, an accomplished marketing communications executive, economic development leader and community advocate. Dr. White found inspiration through the intersection of business, diversity and leadership, and has made this her niche. She is a national sought after consultant, thought leader, and speaker to countless organizations and executives on issues of team engagement, organizational leadership, strategic diversity, and intentional inclusion.

Dr. White serves as the Senior Advisor to the Greenville Chamber’s Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and is responsible for creating and collaboratively implementing an overarching diversity strategy for the Greenville Chamber as an extension of the executive team. In this role, Dr. White designs and oversees initiatives that develop and promote inclusion of diverse businesses in the economic activities of Upstate South Carolina. Since taking on the position, Dr. White has helped the Greenville Chamber gain the recognition of the Organization of the Year from the Minority of Economic Development Institute, 2014 Palmetto Visions Award Recipient for Excellence in Workplace Diversity presented by SC Chamber of Commerce, 2014 Excellence in Diversity Award Recipient presented by Greenville Society of Human Resources Management (GSHRM) and a national platform as a leader in the space of diversity inclusion recognized by Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

Dr. White is a graduate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Institute of Organization Management (IOM), a milestone consisting of 96 credit hours of nonprofit instruction focusing on professional growth and development. Dr. White is a Certified Diversity Executive (CDE) through  the Institute for Diversity Certification (IDC) which has conferred globally-recognized professional credentials to Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) practitioners in all sectors. The IDC CDE program is based on industry standards and best practices, as well as designed to encourage excellence and achievement.

Dr. White demonstrates her influence in the marketplace and the community with awards like SC Career Woman of the Year, SC Upstate Business Journal Who’s Who, US Small Business Association’s SC Minority Business Advocate of the Year, Greenville Business Magazine 50 Most Influential, and national recognition by The Network Journal Magazine as Top 40 Under 40 Leaders and Diversity MBA Magazine as Top 100 Under 50 Executives. Dr. White is the author of “The Intentional Inclusionist™” a book for leaders who want to grow as inclusion-minded individuals and exercise their leadership to enhance the workplace, build communities, and have a positive impact on any circle of influence to which they belong. This book, inspired by philosophies of leadership and inclusion, contains principles to help individuals become more intentional in how diversity and inclusion is understood and practiced at the individual level. The book is designed to help leaders recognize that collective efforts one person at a time can change the way the entire world looks at human difference and improve talent and organizational performance.

As former Management Supervisor and Diversity Manager at Erwin Penland, South Carolina’s largest marketing firm with offices in both New York and Greenville, SC, Dr. White led teams of peers in brand development, strategic marketing and advertising campaign creations for a variety of regional, national and international clients including Verizon Wireless, Advance America, A.T. Cross, Wells Fargo, Culligan Water, and L’eggs. Dr. White’s work in advertising and marketing extended to the area of diversity and inclusion where she helped to ensure diversity practices were threaded through the fabric of the organization. The culmination of her efforts came when she led the formation of EP’s Diversity & Inclusion Council to foster effective diversity management practices and promote an environment of acceptance and inclusion. Dr. White knew that her work in the diversity and inclusion space both professionally and personally would lead her to a full-time career in this discipline. Dr. White lends her expertise and passion for public speaking to consult and advocate for strategic and intentional diversity and inclusion practices as a key function of leadership. The impact of Dr. White’s work extends to communities, cities, and organizations throughout the United States. Dr. White’s client list consist of chambers of commerce, municipalities, nonprofit organizations, corporations, and higher learning institutions.

Dr. White has a passion for facilitating, teaching and public speaking and has served as adjunct faculty for University of South Carolina Upstate and Webster University.

Dr. White earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications with a concentration in advertising and public relations, and a Masters of Education where her focus was on adult learning, corporate training, and distance education. Dr. White also earned her Doctor of Management in Organizational leadership.
